Not sunrise for your city

Almost every set of sun times is for a whole town. They tell you when the sun clears a flat horizon — not when it clears the roof across the street.

Find the Sun asks what you can see instead. You point the phone the way the place faces and tilt until the line sits on the rooftops opposite. The answer recalculates while you turn — swing round and the numbers follow, tilt up and watch the building opposite eat the morning.

Save the place and you get the year as well: which months give sun, when the first sun arrives, when the last of it leaves.

Astronomy, not estimates. The sun's position is calculated on your phone with the same algorithm almanacs use, accurate to a hundredth of a degree. It works anywhere on earth, including where the sun doesn't set in June.

Everything stays on your phone

No account, no sign-up. Your position is used to calculate the sun and never leaves the device. The places you measure are saved locally. There is no server to send them to.

The app is free and paid for by a strip of ads. If you'd rather not see them, you can buy them away once — no subscription, nothing that renews. Buy them away and the ad network is never started at all.

Worth knowing

In the camera view, north comes from the phone's compass, and a few degrees off is normal — more if you're standing next to metal or magnets. The calculation is exact; the compass is the limit.

The app shows where the sun is, not whether clouds are in the way. For that you'll have to look outside, or read the forecast.
