Privacy policy for Find the Sun
In effect from 3 September 2026.
In short
The app sends none of your data anywhere. Your position is used on the phone to
work out where the sun is, and never leaves the device. The places you measure
are stored locally. There is no account and no server.
The only thing that reaches the network is the advertising, and you can buy
that away.
Location
The app asks for your position so it can calculate where the sun is where you
stand. The calculation happens entirely on the phone. Your position is not
stored, not logged, and not sent to us or to anyone else.
If you decline, the app still works, but shows times for a default location
until you turn location on.
Camera
The camera is used to draw the sun's path over what you see. The image is only
shown on screen. Nothing is recorded and nothing is saved.
The places you save
The name, coordinate and horizon profile you measured are kept in a file in the
app's own storage on the phone. They are included in your phone's normal backup
if you have one enabled. Delete the app and they are gone.
Advertising
The app shows ads from Google AdMob. Before the first ad is fetched you are
asked whether you allow personalised advertising, and iOS additionally asks
whether the app may track you across other companies' apps and websites.
If you decline, ads are still shown, but not personalised.
To show ads, Google may receive:
- Your advertising identifier, if you allowed tracking
- A coarse location that Google derives from your IP address
- Device details such as model and operating system version
The app's own location data is never shared with Google.
Google's handling is described at
policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
You can change your answer at any time under More → Change my ad consent.
If you buy the ads away
Then the ad network is never started. No consent dialog, no tracking prompt, no
request. Google never learns that you exist.
Purchases
The ad-free purchase is handled by Apple. We never see your payment details and
receive nothing from Apple beyond the fact that the purchase exists.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect
data about them.
Your rights
Since we store no data about you, there is nothing to request, correct or
delete from us. To remove everything the app has saved locally, delete the app.
Questions about advertising data go to Google, who is the data controller for
it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top is updated and the change is
described in the app's release notes.
